Speedrun

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 1, 2026

Overview

Speedrun is an iOS app and web app that delivers short AI-generated video briefings ("Speedruns") on tech and AI, each built from publicly available sources. This policy explains what data we collect from you, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

Your use of Speedrun is also governed by our Terms of Service.

Data we collect

  • Account information: If you sign in via Google, Apple, or a magic link sent to your email, we store your user ID, email address, display name, and profile image URL to link your account across devices.
  • Bookmarks and preferences: Bookmarks, caption settings, and appearance settings are stored locally on the browser or device where you set them. They are not currently synced to our server.
  • Usage analytics: We collect product analytics - for example which briefings are played, shared, or bookmarked - to understand how Speedrun is used and improve it. When you are signed in, analytics may be associated with your account identifier, email address, display name, and current playback preferences.
  • Diagnostic events: Error and crash telemetry used to keep the app and web app reliable.
  • Viewing history and stats: Viewing totals are first recorded on your device. On iOS, signed-in viewing history is also sent to our server to reconcile account-linked totals; the web viewing-total ledger currently remains on that browser. Playback events may also be included in product analytics as described above.

Separately from data about you, our systems process publicly available third-party content - articles, posts, transcripts, and other reporting - to build the briefings themselves.

Data we do not collect

  • Passwords - sign-in is via Google, Apple, or an emailed magic link
  • Browsing history or activity outside Speedrun
  • Contacts, location, or private messages

How we use your data

  1. Account and viewing totals: Account information identifies you across signed-in sessions. On iOS, signed-in viewing history is used to provide reconciled account-linked totals.
  2. Email: Your email address is used to send magic-link sign-in links.
  3. Product improvement: Product analytics show us what gets watched and where people drop off, so we can make better briefings.
  4. Reliability: Diagnostic events are used to monitor crashes and fix errors.

Third-party services

Speedrun uses the following third-party services:

  • Convex: Backend infrastructure for API, database, and media storage
  • AI providers: Briefing scripts, visuals, narration, and presenters are generated through AI model providers (including OpenRouter and Inworld); the content they process is the public source material, not your personal data
  • PostHog: Product analytics, including account-linked analytics after sign-in
  • Google and Apple: Sign-in providers for account authentication
  • Resend: Email delivery for magic-link sign-in

Please refer to their respective privacy policies for information on how they handle data, including network metadata such as IP addresses in their own logs.

Public share links

Every briefing has a public share link, and briefing pages are viewable by anyone with the link. Share links identify the briefing, not the person who shared it.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete your authentication account from your profile at any time. You can also contact us to request deletion of other data associated with your account. Deleting your account does not automatically clear data stored locally on your browser or device.

Your rights

  • Use Speedrun without an account
  • Delete your authentication account from your profile
  • Ask us to delete other data associated with your account
  • Clear locally stored bookmarks, preferences, and viewing history from your browser or app
  • Contact us with questions about your data

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
